The tavern “Kourites” has reached its current form after forty years of efforts and care.

In the mid- ‘70s for the first time, in the form of an eating house, the tavern served the very little needs at the time for the locals and the visitors. It didn’t take long before “Monachoyos” was popular, because of his love for cooking.

The uprising number of visitors in the Plateau Lasithi foreboded the need of expanding the business, that became possible 10 years later by the continuer of this effort, “Manolarakis”, who was the son-in-law of “Monachoyos”. Sharing the same passion, they continued together their contribution to the traditional cooking.

However, nor this proved to be enough to cover the continuously increasing tourist movement in the plateau. Plateau Lasithi was established as a tourist destination by the international tourist agencies.

In the beginning of the 90’s Yannis and Charidimos, sons of “Manolarakis” will be the continuers of this indefatigable course in the hospitality.

With the same responsibility towards tradition, the same passion and love for hospitality, Kostis and Manolis, sons of Charidimos, continue till this day to welcome the visitor to the birthplace of hospitality.
